Fourth of July/Six Weeks Old!

Rian is six weeks old this week.  We had a great weekend celebrating the 4th of July up at the beach house with family.

Saturday was a really nice day, so the boys decided to tackle a big project: ripping out all the landscaping in the front yard.  This area had just become a mess, since we don't have much time to maintain it.  So we ripped it out and are going to try to come up with a more low maintenance option... I'm thinking Rock Garden... lol.
While they were digging they found this plastic snake, that, from afar, looked convincingly real

Regan named the snake  "Wormy" and proceeded to play with it for the rest of the afternoon

The fourth of July was beach house day, and Aunt LuAnn and Uncle Mark graciously hosted us all again.  We always have fun at the beach, but this year was the first year that Regan wanted to spend most of her time in the sand & water.

Here is a cute little comparison picture of Kevin and Regan now, and Kevin and Regan at OBX last May

When Kyle got there he was in the house, and Regan went up to him and said, "Kyle want to play on the beach with me?  I'm a nice girl.  Hold my hand - come on!".  It was sooo cute!
Daddy and Uncle Colin buried her in the sand
Here is another comparison - Regan on the fourth this year, and Regan on the fourth last year.  What a difference a year makes!

We really had a fun weekend, but the kids were so tired after a long day in the sun, we never made till fireworks time.  Luckily the wait at the bridge was practically non-existent, so we got home and everyone crashed.

Today in Grandma Judy's birthday!  Happy Birthday Grandma Judy!  We will be celebrating with her this weekend!

Five Weeks Old!

Rian turned five weeks old on Monday of this week, and he seems to be growing like a weed while you watch him!  His overnight sleep has improved somewhat this week, and he is only waking twice during the night to eat.  If we can stretch his two sleeping periods a hour longer each, he would only be getting up once at night!

Also, his growth spurt seems to have subsided, and he is back to a schedule of eating every 2.5 to 3 hours during the day.  This makes Mom and Regan happy campers.

Also, in Daddy news, we bought a new car this week!  We are the proud new owners for a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ( yes, we are going green).  I haven't taken pictures of the new car yet, because Kevin won't allow anyone within 5 feet of it...lol.  But I will post some soon!
Regan wanted me to use the blow-dryer on her hair... this was the result.
Big boy playing on his mat - the flash surprises him every time!

This weekend we are planning a lot of fun stuff for the holiday.  We are going to the beach house for the 4th, so I'm sure we will have a bunch of pictures to post from there!  Enjoy your holiday!

One Month Old!

Rian was one month old yesterday!  Time is flying by!  It seems like we just brought him home the other day, but in some ways it's hard to remember what our family was like without him (of course that lack of sleep I'm getting makes it hard to remember anything).

This past week we had fun enjoying the weather and celebrating Father's Day with our family.
On Friday, Kevin gave Rian his first  bottle, and he took it really well.  We were both glad to see this, because we had a hard time with Regan, and tried many types of bottles before we found one she liked.

Regan wanted in on the action too - so she gave a bottle to Macy
Rian also started to take naps in his crib
Of course Mom enjoyed one blissful week where Regan and Rian took a nap for the same two hours of the day.  It was great, and I got a lot accomplished (and by "a lot", I mean "I took a shower").  Now though it seems Regan is having a harder time going to bed at night, as she is awake for an hour or two after we lay her down.  I read that this could be a sign that she is ready to drop her nap - boo.  So this week I'm going to keep her awake during the day and see if it makes any difference with her bedtime routine.  If it does, then I will be very sad to see this nap go.
Back at the playground for some Father's Day fun!

So here are Rian's official one month pictures.  We are going to use the little froggy that he got from Jen and Andy, which Regan has named "Pee".  Don't ask me why.
In this comparison with the bear, you can see just how much bigger he is than she was.
This fourth week is proving to be a trying one for me and Rian.  I think he is going through his first major growth spurt and he is eating like crazy.  Gone is the predictability of the schedule that I was bosting about last week.  Lately he has been eating almost every two hours, and is very fussy most of the time.  He is hardly ever content to just sit in his bouncy chair and observe the word around him.  He is either eating, sleeping, or crying because he's hungry or tired.  I really hope this is only temporary.  I just keep telling myself that eventually (two or three years from now) I will get sleep again.
